The Portland Police Bureau is currently freezing all police officer hiring at this time due to budget forecasting for the upcoming fiscal year, as well as fewer than anticipated retirements for the year.

Therefore, please be advised that the upcoming May Recruitment and Test has been cancelled until further notice.

PORTLAND POLICE RESERVES PROGRAM

For those of you who are interested in becoming Reserve Officers during this hiring freeze, the Portland Police Reserves Program has a test scheduled for Saturday, March 31, 2012. [More information and an application.]The Reserve Program is a great opportunity to gain some experience and insight to becoming a police officer.

The registration deadline for the Portland Police Reserves Test has been extended due to the announcement of the hiring freeze. The new deadline for registration is Wednesday, March 28, 2012. To register for this test please contact the Reserve Program Coordinator, Officer Angel Ocasio at angel.ocasio@portlandoregon.gov.

FOR CURRENT CANDIDATES PENDING or IN THE BACKGROUND PROCESS:

We will continue with the various phases of the process, as you have been previously notified. After successful completion of the Background Investigation, candidates will be placed on a ranked Eligible for Hire list. As we are authorized to fill future officer positions, those candidates will be made conditional job offers and invited to continue to the Psychological and Medical Exams (the final two phases of the hiring process.)
