Hiring Process

Phase I- Written Test – Pass/Fail

The written test consists of four components:

  • Accuracy of Observation (Recalling visual stimuli)
  • Written Communication Skills (Writing skills and multiple choice test)
  • Skills Reading and Understanding (Read passages and respond to questions)
  • Biodata Test (54-question test)

When an applicant passes the written exam they are scheduled for the Physical Ability Test (PAT).

Phase II - Physical Ability Test (PAT) - Pass/Fail

Applicants are tested on:

  • Physical strength
  • Endurance
  • Agility and coordination

Physical Abilities Test Guide

Upon successful completion of the PAT an applicant is scheduled for the Oral Interview.

Phase III - Oral Interview – Pass/Fail

Consists of:

  • 6 Questions
  • A Pass/Fail panel interview (2 sworn, 1 non-sworn)

The Statement of Personal History (SPH) is turned in.

Phase IV – Background Investigation

Applicants must answer all questions completely and accurately, or they risk being eliminated from the process.

The length of the background investigation is directly related to the amount of time it takes to gather the references, have them return applicable forms and respond to additional requests for information and/or clarification.

Phase V – Psychological Evaluation - Pass/Fail

Consists of a formal interview and testing with a psychologist.

Phase VI – Medical Evaluation - Pass/Fail

Consists of a comprehensive physical examination, including a drug screen.
